The thyroid gland is a small gland that’s located in the front of the neck, wrapped around the windpipe. It’s shaped like a butterfly, smaller in the middle with two wide wings that extend around the side of your throat. The thyroid gland releases the hormone that controls metabolism.

The Thyroid gland is supervised by the pituitary gland, located in the center of the skull, below the brain. The pituitary gland monitors and controls the amount of thyroid hormones in the bloodstream. When the pituitary gland senses a lack of thyroid hormones or a high level of hormones in the body, it will adjust the amounts with its own hormone. This hormone is called thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The TSH will be sent to the thyroid and it will tell the thyroid what needs to be done to get the body back to normal.

Hyperthyroidism, also called overactive thyroid, is a condition where your thyroid makes and releases high levels of thyroid hormone. This condition can make your metabolism speed up. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include a rapid heartbeat, weight loss, increased appetite and anxiety.

The conventional doctors treat hyperthyroidism with anti thyroid drugs, radioactive iodine, beta blockers and surgery.

Hypothyroidism is a common condition where the thyroid doesn’t create and release enough thyroid hormone into your bloodstream. This makes your metabolism slow down. Also called under active thyroid, hypothyroidism can make you feel tired, gain weight and be unable to tolerate cold temperatures.

The conventional doctors treat hypothyroidism with hormone replacement therapy. i e. they give external thyroid hormone to the patient and make them a well managed chronic patient for the whole of their life.

But here we are going to discuss some cases where the patients have a different story to tell.

A 45 years old manager (Mr. Singh) from a coal mining company from Chirimiri, Chattisgarh, India was referred by his hospital to a well known allopathic hospital for his uncontrolled hyperthyroidism for many years.
